Visiting Ibrox on Match Day

Ibrox on match day is one of the great experiences in Scottish football. The marble staircase, the roar of 51,000 supporters, the atmosphere around Edmiston Drive before kick-off — everything you need to know for your first visit.

Getting tickets

Rangers FC tickets are available through the official Rangers FC website at rangers.co.uk. For most Scottish Premiership fixtures, tickets are available to general public from the club's ticket office online or in person at Ibrox.

For high-profile matches — particularly Old Firm fixtures against Celtic — tickets are effectively unavailable through official channels without an existing supporter membership or Season Ticket. Plan well in advance if you want to attend a derby.

The club offers a range of ticket categories including adult, concession, junior, and family tickets. Prices vary by fixture and stand.

Getting to Ibrox

Ibrox Stadium is at 150 Edmiston Drive, Glasgow G51 2XD.

  • By Subway: The Glasgow Subway (Clockwork Orange) runs to Ibrox station — a 5-minute walk from the stadium. This is the easiest and most enjoyable way to arrive. Trains run every few minutes from the city centre.
  • By bus: The 38 and 38A from the city centre stop on Paisley Road West, a short walk from the ground.
  • By car: Parking is available at the Albion Car Park opposite the stadium at £10. Arrive early — it fills quickly on match days.
  • By taxi: Around £8–12 from the city centre. Drop-off on Edmiston Drive is straightforward.

Before the match — the best pubs near Ibrox

The area around Ibrox has several traditional Rangers pubs that fill up from early afternoon on match days.

  • The Louden Tavern: Copland Road, a 5-minute walk from the stadium. The most famous Rangers pub in Glasgow, packed on match days with a genuine atmosphere. Arrive early to get a seat.
  • The Edmiston Club: Inside Ibrox itself, the official supporters' bar. Open to all on match days with a ticket. Good option if you want to stay close to the ground.
  • Brechin's Bar: Govan Road, a more local option slightly further from the stadium. Less crowded than the Louden on big match days.

What to expect on arrival

The atmosphere around Ibrox on match day is notable. Edmiston Drive fills up in the hour before kick-off with supporters arriving from the Subway, buses, and on foot. The Main Stand — the Archibald Leitch-designed redbrick facade — is impressive in any light, but particularly so on a floodlit evening.

Gates open approximately 90 minutes before kick-off. Security checks are thorough — don't bring large bags, and be prepared to show your ticket and any ID if requested.

The stadium is all-seater. Away supporters are accommodated in a section of the Broomloan Stand — check your ticket carefully to make sure you're entering via the correct turnstile.

The atmosphere inside

Ibrox is one of the loudest stadiums in Scottish football. The singing starts before kick-off and continues throughout the match. The Rangers support has a strong tradition of terrace songs — some of which have historical and political dimensions that first-time visitors should be aware of.

The stadium holds 51,082 when full. For Old Firm matches and European fixtures, it is consistently sold out and the atmosphere is among the most intense in British football.

After the match

Edmiston Drive gets very busy immediately after the final whistle. If you're taking the Subway, expect queues at Ibrox station for 20–30 minutes after the match. Walking to Govan Cross and taking the Subway from there avoids the worst of the crowds.

The pubs around the ground remain busy for an hour or more after the match. The city centre is a 20-minute Subway ride away.

Can't make a match? Book a stadium tour

If you're visiting Glasgow outside the football season, or can't get match day tickets, the Ibrox stadium tour gives behind-the-scenes access to the dressing rooms, Trophy Room, marble staircase, tunnel, and dugout — areas off-limits on match days.
